Whether or not money is really the root of all evil, it is undeniably something that provokes strong emotions and sometimes dodgy deeds.

This double bill from ATG explored the subject of money in contrasting ways and gave us the added enjoyment of a fish and chip supper between acts.

Inheritance gave us a trio of sisters each hoping their mother, confined to bed after falling down stairs, would be quick about dying as they all wanted their share of her cash.

Margaret (Linda Harris) was exhausted and sick of caring for mum and yearned for freedom.

Hippy dippy Fay (Jane Bennett) wanted it to keep her wildlife sanctuary solvent. And posh Jean (Nicola Howcroft, aging up for the role with some lines round her eyes) was after it to financially boost a business plan with her newly redundant husband. Jill Maynard was an admirably still mum.

Character definition was good but movement round the bedroom set looked awkward and unnatural at times.

Spin to Win was written and directed by ATG member John Tough, a fun parody on the gameshow format in which two couples competed for the big cash prize.

I'd have liked to see more ebullience from Keith Harper's genial quizmaster Henry to generate greater excitement when contestants got their answer right.

I loved Ellie Driscoll as the blonde bombshell Hostess, posing with that wonderful false smile, announcing the scores and flirting with Henry. Shove over Carol Vorderman!

Marian Harper and John Desbottes were the bickering marrieds, with Christine Woodhead and Genevieve Coombe as enthusiastic sisters Sarah and Louise.

I enjoyed the idea of this playlet but there is room for more humour in the script (quiz shows are notorious for their wrong answers) and a stronger ending.

The glitzy set with its spinning wheel looked marvelous.
