ATG Awards Night 2010

On 2nd October Hall we were transported to the glamour of 1920s Hollywood for a fabulous evening of indulgence!

Gee and her team transformed the Hall with lanterns, balloons and a 7 foot Oscar which greeted us on arrival. We started the evening with a little Sex on the Beach (as you do) and moved on to a gorgeous meal of antipasti, lamb, chicken and some scrummy desserts, which were dished up beautifully (except the cheesecake which was unceremoniously slopped into a bowl!).

Christine kicked off the cabarets in style by singing beautifully for us and then Maggie and Gen wowed us with their charlston routine. Rick Morris then lowered the tone suitably with his hilarious Jackanory Story - I don't remember them being quite like that when I was a kid!

Gee and Melissa kept us giggling with their Girls on the Town sketch and Dom sang Purpose from Avenue Q and Grow Old With Me by Jason Robert Brown which gave us all a tear in our eyes. Martin Llewellyn always treats us with a great sketch at the Awards and this year was no different with a Ronnie Barker sketch.

Finally Gee, Ellie and Angie became the Chicken Supremes whose arms grew about 3 feet each during the song! And to round off the evening Jay sang our fabulous ATG Anthem complete with new versus for the 2008-2010 years.

And the winners were

Best Actor - Jeremy Nicholls for Garry Lejeune in Noises Off! And Lt Gruber in 'Allo 'Allo

Best Actress - Gee Rook for The Countess Wraith in Dracula Spectacula! And Mary Meade in Murder Afloat

Best Supporting Actor - Gary Shaw for Frederick Fellowes in Noises Off! Herr Flick in 'Allo 'Allo and Harold Gorringe in Black Comedy

Best Supporting Actress Louise Canfield for Brooke Ashton in Noises Off! Carole Melkett in Black Comedy and Yvette Carte-Blanche in 'Allo 'Allo

Best Director Gee Rook for Noises Off!

Grimwood Award winner Richard Henson for being an excellent Assistant Stage Manager and in particular for mending the bannister rail during Noises Off!

Wooderson Award winner Peggy Robinson for prompting every play and for making tea and coffee at set strike and hut clearance days

Davison Award winner Christine Woodhead for her constant commitment to the Group and for being a joy to work with

Best Unrehearsed Achievement (Best Get Out of That/Best Cock Up/Best Cover Up) The Cast and Crew of Noises Off! for not dying when the bannister broke on the final night and for keeping it together in the closing moments of the show!

Christmas Party, 2008

Nicky surpassed herself again by throwing an amazing Fairytale-themed Christmas party.  A team of helpers transformed the Hut into a magical fairyland complete with enchanted fountain, the Ugly Duckling’s pond and Cinderella’s pumpkin carriage – it was a vision to behold!

We saw some exotic costumes as well, most memorably the Snow Queen and the most terrifying Snowman I think any of us has ever seen!  Peter Pan flew in, Snow White’s Evil Stepmother corrupted one of the Dwarves for the evening, and the Ugly Stepsisters also put in an appearance.

ATG 40th Anniversary Year Awards November 2008

The 2008 Awards Evening was a swinging success as usual, and the Gee and her Awards committee worked tirelessly to put on a fabulous meal, and turn the hall into a venue fit for such a prestigious event.

And we had some fantastic cabaret performances to entertain us between courses…

Keith and Gabi got us off to a fine start with their performance of Let’s Face The Music and Dance.

Then Gabi swallowed her nerves and braved the stage again when she and Christine gave a fantastic performance of Loathing from Wicked.

Against their better judgement Ellie, Angela, Nicky H and Louise performed a hilarious rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody – curry style!

Gee and Debs made us all giggle with their version of French and Saunders’ ballerina sketch.

And then Jay rounded off proceedings with his ever-changing ATG Anthem which had a couple of new verses written especially for the evening and had everyone singing along.

All in all it was another brilliant evening, and a celebration of the productions of the past two years, and 40 years of ATG.  We’re all looking forward to the 2010 Awards!
