Two One-Act Comedies for March
Play Reading Tues 20th Jan - Auditions - 21st, 22nd, 27th Jan
Stop what you're doing, it's time to get the March production machine rolling and we have two fantastic plays to tickle your fancy. We have a pretty short timescale for our March production this year so we've got play reading and auditions happening all week, please join us whenever you can, but if you want to be involved but can't make these dates do get in touch with one of our directors so that you can still be considered for a role.
Play Reading
Tuesday 20th January at 8pm at the Hut.
As usual an informal social gathering to drink tea, read the plays and find out more about what roles both on and backstage we have available.
Auditions
Wednesday 21st, Thursday 22nd, Tuesday 27th January at 8pm at the Hut.
You only need to come to one of the above, not all, we just have a wide selection of dates this time as it's such short notice. The audition itself will be informal, you'll be asked to read for the directors and will get plenty of time to ask questions about the plays and the roles if you missed the play reading.
The Plays
We will be performing:
Breakfast for One, by David Foxton
A comedy, to be directed by Gee Rook
1895, France, French accents, a dining room set
Marcel arrives at the Signac home hoping to see his beloved Marie-Céleste, a dancer. Instead he encounters the maid, Honorine, while Yvette, the lady of the house, mistakes Marcel for Claude, a marauding vagrant. A raucous, swiftly-moving comedy of mistaken identities, shotguns and confusion with an unexpectedly happy ending for all concerned.
3 Men, 2 Women
The roles available
Marcel Moriset - a personable young man
Honorine - a maid
Yvette Signac
Claude Vallette - a vagrant
Vincent Signac - a lawyer husband to Yvette
Little Grimley Presents Strictly Sex Factor on Ice, by David Tristram
A comedy, to be directed by Ali Morris
The Little Grimley Amateur Society are faced with yet another threat to their very existence. Reality TV shows have ravaged their Saturday night audiences, which in their hey-day used to occasionally reach double figures. Never one to take these things lying down, Chairman Gordon has devised a cunning plan to compete head-on - their very own live Saturday night blockbuster, combining the best of all the other formats. All they need now is an audience, some contestants, four judges, a mirror ball... oh, yes, and some ice.
2 Men, 2 Women
The roles available
Gordon - is a strong, determined director who is the eternal optimist, always thinking up new, unrealistic ways to stop the theatre group going under
Margaret - the leading lady, self-obsessed, self-assured, ever supportive of Gordon
Joyce - club Secretary, naive, slightly dim, unwilling participant in Gordon’s ventures
Bernard - backstage set builder, sound man, lighting, & general dogsbody with a very dry sense of humour.
